The Role of the Physician
More Than a Medical Advisor
The physician enjoys a high degree of trust among patients. A physician is much more than just a medical advisor – often knowing the patient over many years. Consequently, medical counsel holds a special place for the patient, as the physician is also consulted on personal matters.
This role of counselor is a fundamental duty in Islam. Accordingly, we wish to serve our patients and our Ummah with our medical counsel. For good advice is one of the most effective forms of therapy.
Prophetic Guidance
الدِّينُ النَّصِيحَةُ. قُلْنَا: لِمَنْ؟ قَالَ: لِلَّهِ، وَلِكِتَابِهِ، وَلِرَسُولِهِ، وَلِأَئِمَّةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَعَامَّتِهِمْ
“The religion is sincere counsel (Nasiha).” We asked: “To whom?” He replied: “To Allah, His Book, His Messenger, the leaders of the Muslims, and their common people.”

Understanding – Conduct – Responsibility
Understanding
Understanding encompasses both a comprehension of the challenges we face and of the solutions inspired by Islam. For this, a revival of knowledge in medical ethics, medical law, and the history of medicine in Islam is of immense importance.
Conduct
These approaches should become part of our daily professional practice and be tangibly manifested through our conduct. In doing so, we fulfill our responsibility as pillars of society and become role models of noble character.
Responsibility
We understand the Islamic solutions, practice them in our lives, and call upon society to implement them – in the hope of resembling the trees that bear fruit throughout the year, as described in the noble Quran.
Societal Engagement
Role Models of Noble Character
Proactive participation in societal discourse and engagement in shaping public opinion are also among the recommendations of our noble Prophet Muhammad (s).
This understanding should encompass not only individual aspects but also societal phenomena, such as Islamic principles in healthcare provision.
Quran 25:74
وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا
“…and make us a leader for the righteous.”
