Medicine as worship.
Material Progress
More Than Biochemistry
The scientific and technological progress of our age inspires many people – and rightly so. However, this also leads to many aspects of life being increasingly reduced to purely material concerns, thereby stripping them of their richness.
As Muslims, we do not limit medicine to this material perspective. Rather, we always consider the spiritual dimension in our actions and practice.
Our Understanding
Gift, Trial, and Worship
We see health and illness not as mere sequences of biochemical processes but as gifts or trials that are given to us and may befall us in this life.
We understand that we are not the healers, but that Allah (t.) is the source of healing. Our task is to make this healing accessible to patients through our medical expertise, thereby serving as intermediaries.
We therefore regard medicine not merely as a profession but simultaneously as an act of worship.
Quran 26:81
وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ
“And when I am ill, it is He who heals me.”
