Ihsan in Medicine
Acting in the best possible manner
As Muslims, we always strive to perform our actions in the best possible manner (Ihsan). To realize this in the field of medicine, Muslim healthcare professionals are expected to possess outstanding professional competence and a high level of up-to-date expertise.
At the same time, we should always keep in mind the ethical and Islamic legal foundations of our actions, and maintain sufficient knowledge of the rulings and moral principles governing them. These should serve as a guide for both us and our patients in making the right decisions.
Through publications, seminars, conferences, and further continuing education opportunities, HAKIM aims to contribute to the acquisition and expansion of this competence.
Prophetic Warning
مَنْ تَطَبَّبَ وَلَمْ يُعْلَمْ مِنْهُ طِبٌّ فَهُوَ ضَامِنٌ
“Whoever practices medicine without being known as a competent practitioner shall be held liable.”
Sunan Abū Dāwūd 4586
As a source of inspiration serve the words of the Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him):
Quran 12:55
قَالَ اجْعَلْنِي عَلَىٰ خَزَائِنِ الْأَرْضِ إِنِّي حَفِيظٌ عَلِيمٌ
“He said: Appoint me over the storehouses of the land; I am indeed a knowledgeable guardian.”
